Social trends: working in Europe vs US

When I worked at Microsoft UK in London for a few weeks, lunch hours were raving and after work drinks were raving mad (that is compared to what I have seen here in the US, I meant Seattle).  In London, you would see very few people at their desks at lunch time and if you needed to chat with someone after 6:00PM, chances were that you would find them at the local pub holding their third pint of Guinness, especially on Fridays.  Of course I am not saying UK Microsofties are slackers, but I am using drama to make a point.  Here in Redmond, new posters have emerged on the walls offering to deliver your lunch to your desk, which I think could be handy on some days, but I hope this doesn’t become a habit for some.  Taking a walk to the cafeteria is a good way to sharpen your saw, at least once a day, having lunch with colleagues is an added bonus.
